Project L.I.F.E.

Opened in 1992 as a new York State licensed Tier II shelter that provides transitional housing for homeless families who are residents of Orange County.  The Orange County Department of Social Services determines eligibility and pays a shelter allowance for each eligible family.

Project L.I.F.E. houses sixteen families who are referred by the Orange County Department of Social Services.  Eligible families may live at Project L.I.F.E. for six months.  The facility provides families with 24 hour security and support.  Families receive on-site case management and child care; transportation; after-school and weekend activities; advocacy and referrals as necessary; and assistance in locating affordable permanent housing.

Eligibility:

  • Homeless
  • Financial eligible for temporary assistance by the Orange County Department of Social Services
  • Resident of Orange County
  • Parent or parents with a minor child or pregnant woman
  • Motivated to identify and work towards goals to achieve independence
  • Willing and able to follow the rules of the facility
